How Trice works
Maid didn’t come today? A calm plan for the morning
Maid not coming today? A step-by-step plan for Coimbatore homes: what to message her, what to do first, and when to book same-day backup help.
If your maid is not coming today, do three things in this order. Send her one kind message to check she is all right. Cut today’s list down to the jobs that cannot wait, which are usually the dishes, the kitchen and the floors. Then decide by mid-morning whether the family can cover those jobs or you need backup help. Most of what feels urgent at 7 AM can wait a day.
If you do need someone, you can book same-day backup help. At Trice it is called “Maid didn’t come?”. It costs ₹199 an hour, with a 2-hour minimum (₹398), and we confirm a clock time with you by phone before anyone comes. Here is the whole morning, step by step.
Start with one kind message
You don’t know yet why your helper hasn’t come. She may be unwell, her child may be sick, or the bus may not have come. Start the way you would with anyone you respect.
A Mumbai agency’s guide to this exact morning (HouseHelp365, July 2026) suggests one call and then one short message, rather than calling again and again. It suggests waiting about 20 minutes before you try anyone else. It also points out that on days of heavy rain, strikes or big festivals, the reason is usually transport, not intent. That holds in Kovai too.
A message like this is enough: “Akka, are you okay? No problem about today. Please tell me if you can come tomorrow.”
Then put the phone down and get on with the morning. Any longer conversation can wait until she is back.
The first hour: cut the list down
Not everything she does every day needs doing today. Sort the jobs first.
| Job | Do it today? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Dishes and the kitchen counter | Yes | You need the vessels for the next meal, and leftovers bring ants |
| Sweeping and mopping | Kitchen and dining area only | Crumbs and spills are what bother you; bedrooms can wait |
| Laundry | Only what someone needs tomorrow | One machine load runs while you do other things |
| Bathroom | A quick wipe if guests are coming | Otherwise it can wait until tomorrow |
| Dusting and tidying rooms | No | Nobody will notice for a day |
Start the washing machine first, because it runs on its own. Soak the heavy vessels in hot water while you have breakfast; they wash much faster afterwards. Wipe the counter last, once the cooking is done.
Split the work in the family
A missed day goes better when it is not one person’s problem. Give each person one job they can finish before they leave:
- One person clears and washes the breakfast dishes.
- One person sweeps and mops the kitchen and dining area. Older children can do this well.
- Whoever leaves last hangs out the laundry.
- Dinner is something simple, so the evening pile stays small.
If both of you work long hours, or someone at home is unwell, elderly or has a new baby, this is usually the point where backup help makes sense.
When to book backup help
Book backup help when:
- the must-do list is more than the family can finish before work or school;
- you have guests, a function, or a work-from-home day you cannot lose;
- your helper has told you she will be away for a few days.
If you live in Saravanampatti and nearby areas (see where we work), you can book Trice’s “Maid didn’t come?” backup on the website or in the Trice app. Choose “Today, ASAP”, or pick a time, and choose how many hours you need. Each hour is ₹199, and 2 hours, the minimum, is ₹398. We then call you to confirm. We give you a clock time, such as 11:30 AM, not a number of hours, so you can plan your day around it. We take bookings from 8 AM – 8 PM, every day; requests sent after hours are answered when we open.
Decide early. If the must-do list is clearly bigger than the family can manage, book by mid-morning rather than waiting to see how the day goes. You get more of the day to choose a time from, and the evening is not lost.
The helper is an ID-checked partner who carries a photo ID badge. Here is what ID-checked means at Trice, including what we do not check. You pay after the job, by UPI or cash, the amount shown when you booked. If your plans change, our refund and cancellation policy explains how to cancel.
What to tell the backup helper
A backup helper does not know your home. Two minutes at the door saves half an hour later.
- Today’s list, in order. “Dishes first, then the kitchen floor, then the laundry.” If time runs short, the last item is the one left.
- Where the supplies are. Broom, mop, bucket, floor cleaner, dishwash liquid and detergent. Our partners use your home’s supplies.
- What to leave alone. The pooja shelf, a work desk, anything fragile.
- Any quirks. The washing machine setting you use, the tap that drips.
- What is not part of the job. Cooking full meals, childcare, elder care or pet care, deep cleaning and moving furniture are not included.
Check the partner’s badge against the first name and photo shown in the app before you give the start code. For a fuller checklist, see how to prepare your home for a house help visit.
When your regular helper is back
We’re the backup, not the replacement. When she is back, carry on as usual. A few things help keep a good working relationship:
- Ask how she is before anything else. If she was ill, say you are glad she is better.
- Don’t compare her with the backup helper, and don’t make her feel watched.
- If absences are becoming frequent, talk about it calmly on an ordinary day, not the morning after. Ask whether something has changed, such as timing, travel or health, and whether a different schedule would work better.
- Agree how leave will work from now on: roughly how many days, and how she will let you know.
On pay, our suggestion is simple: don’t cut her pay for a genuine sick day now and then. That is a suggestion, not a law. Tamil Nadu’s notification on wages for domestic work (G.O.(2D) No.99, dated 8 November 2022) sets minimum basic wages. For example, it sets ₹45.50 an hour for unskilled work such as washing clothes, washing vessels and sweeping and mopping in Corporation areas, plus a dearness allowance. It deals with wages, not leave. What you agree about leave is between the two of you, so agree it clearly and keep to it.
How Trice can help
Trice’s “Maid didn’t come?” backup sends an ID-checked partner the same day, at a clock time we confirm with you by phone. It costs ₹199 an hour with a 2-hour minimum, and you pay after the job. If you would rather have the same helper on fixed days, ask us about the regular help plan.
