What ID-checked means at Trice (and what it does not)

Exactly what Trice checks before a partner joins in Coimbatore, what we do not check, and how to check your partner at the door before giving the start code.

At Trice, “ID-checked” means this: before a partner joins, they meet our staff in person at a Registration Day. Our staff see an original ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, driving licence, PAN card or passport; Aadhaar is optional), check that the person is 18 or older, and take the photo for their Trice ID badge. Electricians also show their wireman certificate.

It does not mean a background check. We do not check references and we do not search any criminal-record database. With the partner’s consent, we apply for police verification, which can take a few weeks, and until a clear report comes back we do not call a partner police-verified. We would rather tell you this plainly than let a word promise more than we have done.

What we check, and what we don’t do

What we check What we don’t do
We meet every partner in person at a Registration Day before they join We don’t contact past employers or ask for references
Our staff see an original ID: Aadhaar, Voter ID, driving licence, PAN card or passport We don’t insist on Aadhaar; any one of these IDs is accepted
We check the person is 18 or older We don’t search any criminal-record database
We take the photo for their Trice ID badge, which carries a QR code We do not call a partner police-verified before a clear report comes back
Electricians show their wireman certificate We don’t share your phone number with the partner, or theirs with you
With the partner’s consent, we apply for police verification

This is the same answer you will find under “How are partners verified?” on our help page.

Why we wait for a clear police report

Police verification is done by the police, not by Trice. We can apply for it, with the partner’s consent, but we do not control how long it takes or what it finds. While a partner’s application is pending, there is no police report yet, so we do not call them police-verified.

An ID check also has limits, and it helps to be clear about them. It tells you the person is who they say they are, and that they are an adult. It tells you nothing about their past work. That is why the steps at the door matter, and why we keep phone numbers private on both sides.

How to check your partner at the door

Trice gives you a few simple ways to make sure the person at your door is the partner we sent:

  1. Before they arrive, open your booking. The Trice app shows the partner’s first name, photo and badge code. (Get the app for Android on our download page.)
  2. At the door, ask to see their Trice photo ID badge. Match the face, the first name and the badge code with what the app shows.
  3. Only then give the start code. The start code is yours to give at the door, after you have checked the partner. Do not read it out over the phone or send it to anyone in advance.
  4. If anything does not match, do not open the door and do not give the code. Call Trice support on 93426 25871 (8 AM – 8 PM, every day). If you are in danger, call 112 first.
  5. Calls go through Trice. Phone numbers are not shared between customers and partners, so if someone you do not know calls asking for your start code or an OTP, do not share it. Call us instead.

Give the start code only at the door, and only after the face, first name and badge code match the app.

A little preparation helps the visit go well for both sides: a visitor pass at the gate if your apartment needs one, valuables put away, and a short list of tasks. Our guide to preparing your home for a house help visit has a full checklist.

If you hire help yourself

Many families also hire a helper directly or through an agency. In that case the checks are yours to arrange. The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Digital Police portal says citizens can “seek antecedent verification of prospective employees (including for domestic help, drivers etc.)”, with responses sent by email, and it points citizens to their state police portal. The page does not say what Tamil Nadu offers or whether there is a fee, so ask at your local police station what they accept.

Whatever route you choose, see the original ID yourself, agree hours, tasks and pay in writing, and never share an OTP. We compare the usual routes in hiring house help: agency, app or neighbour.

If something feels wrong

Tell us. Use “Report an issue” on the booking in the Trice app, or the form on the help page, and our support team will call you and look into it with you. If you feel unsafe at any point, you do not have to let anyone in. Call us on 93426 25871, or 112 in an emergency.

How Trice can help

When you book hourly house help or same-day backup help, the partner who comes has been ID-checked by Trice in person and carries a photo ID badge. You check them at the door, give the start code yourself, and pay after the job by UPI or cash. If you have a question about our checks, ask us; we will answer it straight.
