How much does a part-time maid cost in Coimbatore? (2026)
Tamil Nadu’s official minimum wage for house help, the few published Coimbatore estimates, hourly vs monthly costs, and a worked example.
There is no official survey of what Coimbatore households actually pay a part-time maid. The one hard number is the Tamil Nadu Government’s minimum wage for domestic work: in Corporation areas such as Coimbatore city, the minimum basic wage for cleaning, washing and similar work is ₹45.50 an hour, or ₹1,365 a month for one hour of work a day, plus a dearness allowance on top (G.O.(2D) No.99, dated 08.11.2022).
Published market estimates for Coimbatore are higher than that floor, but they are rough. Below is what the official order says, what the estimates say, and how to work out a fair figure for your own home.
The official floor: Tamil Nadu’s minimum wage for domestic work
The Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department fixed these rates in G.O.(2D) No.99 of 8 November 2022. It replaced the 2018 order, and the department’s list of minimum-wage orders shows no later revision for domestic work as of October 2026.
The order puts washing clothes, washing utensils, sweeping and mopping, child care, care of the elderly or sick, cooking assistance and other household work in the “unskilled” category. Cooking itself is “semi-skilled”.
| Zone A (Corporation areas), minimum basic wage | Per hour | Per month, 1 hour a day | Per month, 8 hours a day | Live-in, per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unskilled (cleaning, washing, dishes and similar) | ₹45.50 | ₹1,365 | ₹9,418 | ₹10,360 |
| Semi-skilled (cooking, or cooking plus other tasks) | ₹47 | ₹1,410 | ₹9,701 | ₹10,671 |
A few things the order makes clear, and a few it does not:
- Zone A means all Corporations. Coimbatore is a Municipal Corporation, so Zone A applies inside its limits. Municipal areas (Zone B) have a lower floor of ₹41 an hour, and other areas (Zone C) ₹39 an hour, for unskilled work. If your locality is on the edge of the city, check whether it falls inside Corporation limits.
- These are basic wages only. The order adds a dearness allowance linked to the Chennai consumer price index and recalculated every April. We could not find the current amount published for domestic work, so the true legal minimum is higher than the table by an amount we cannot state.
- Higher wages stay. The order says that where a worker already earns more than the minimum, that higher wage continues.
- Same work, same pay. It also says men and women doing the same work must be paid the same.
House helpers can also register with a Tamil Nadu Government welfare board of their own: see the Domestic Workers Welfare Board explained.
What the published estimates say
Only two estimates could be checked directly, and both are rough:
- HelpersNearMe, a worker directory, says a part-time maid in Peelamedu earns “approx ₹6,456 - ₹7,390” a month (page last updated 19 July 2026). It does not say how many hours a day that covers, and it is the site’s own estimate, not a survey.
- Solve24 gives an India-wide estimate: part-time help for one hour a day at ₹2,000–₹4,000 a month, and full-time (8 hours) at ₹10,000–₹22,000. It is a national model with city adjustments, not Coimbatore data.
Both sit above the Government’s basic floor of ₹1,365 a month per daily hour. Treat them as a sense of the range, not a price list. What you agree with your helper will depend on the details below.
Hourly or monthly: how the two compare
| Hourly booking | Monthly arrangement | |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | Guests, a busy week, a day your regular help is away | A daily or weekly routine |
| How it is priced | By the hour, usually with a minimum | A fixed amount for agreed days and hours |
| Leave and absences | You book only when you need help | Agree days off and what happens when either side needs leave |
| Official reference | ₹45.50 an hour basic (Zone A, unskilled) | ₹1,365 a month basic for each hour a day |
Expect occasional hourly help to cost more per hour than a steady monthly job. The helper travels for a short visit and has no regular income from you. A monthly job is steadier for both sides, so the hourly rate inside it tends to be lower.
What changes the price
- Hours a day and days a week. This matters most. One hour a day and three hours a day are very different jobs.
- Tasks. Sweeping, mopping, dishes and washing clothes are in one group. Cooking is a separate, higher category in the Government order.
- Size of the home. A 3BHK with two balconies takes longer than a 1BHK, even for the same task list.
- Distance and timing. Early-morning slots and homes far from where your helper lives are harder to fill, and the price you agree may reflect that.
Agree the hours, the tasks, the weekly day off and the pay date before the first day, and write them down. Most disputes start with something that was never said.
A worked example
Say you want sweeping, mopping and dishes for 2 hours every morning in a flat inside Coimbatore Corporation limits.
The Government’s minimum basic wage for that is 2 × ₹1,365, which is ₹2,730 a month, plus the dearness allowance. If cooking were added, the semi-skilled rate would apply: 2 × ₹1,410, or ₹2,820 a month basic. The published estimates above suggest many households pay more than this floor. Neither estimate states hours, so you cannot read a precise 2-hour figure from them.
Now say you only need help on Saturdays, 3 hours each time. A monthly arrangement makes little sense for 4 visits. An hourly booking does: 3 hours, 4 Saturdays, is 12 hours a month, so roughly 12 × ₹199.
What Trice charges
Trice house help is ₹199 an hour, with a minimum booking of 2 hours (₹398). It covers sweeping and mopping, dusting, dishes, laundry, kitchen prep and everyday bathroom cleaning. It does not cover cooking full meals. You pay after the job, by UPI or cash, the amount shown at booking.
If you want the same helper on fixed days, the Regular help plan starts from ₹4,500 a month. The exact price depends on your hours and days, and we agree it with you on a call. For days your own helper cannot come, see what to do when your maid didn’t come today. If you are weighing up the options, read agency, app or neighbour.
How Trice can help
Book hourly house help on the website or in the Trice app, at a fixed price, paid after the job. For a steady routine, ask for a Regular help plan quote and we will call you. We work in Saravanampatti and nearby areas: see where we serve.
